STATE SWIM 400 GOLD PROGRAM
State Swim's 400 Gold Program is for children from 4 years of age and will cater for the complete beginner right through to the more experienced swimmer. The State Swim 400 Gold Program's 8 stages will take the young swimmer step by step through the important skills of being able to swim and all graduates will be able to demonstrate competence in all 4 competitive strokes as well as being able to swim 400 metres of Freestyle non-stop with correct breathing and technique in a relaxed rhythmical Freestyle. Once this is achieved the swimmer will then be awarded the State Swim 400 Gold certificate - our most prestigious certificate which signifies the holder as being a strong, safe and competent swimmer.
STATE SWIM GLIDES
Maximum of 4 pupils per class • 30 Minutes
Minimum age is 4 Years
This class introduces children to basic water skills and enables them to feel comfortable in the water and used to a class environment. This class will help the child become comfortable putting their face and head under the water whilst learning the correct breathing technique. The child will also be introduced to Backstroke kicking. Once the child is performing a streamline glide with small kick on the kickboard on front and back, the pupil is then promoted to the State Swim Torpedoes class.
STATE SWIM TORPEDOES
Maximum of 4 pupils per class • 30 Minutes
The main building block for the teaching of traditional freestyle pupils can move into this class by achieving the 'GLIDES' class certificate OR by graduating from Kindergarten 2 class. This class will develop the Torpedo skill and backstroke kick and prepares them for State Swim Marlins.
STATE SWIM MARLINS
Maximum of 4 pupils per class • 30 minutes
This class introduces Freestyle arm stroking, or torpedo with arms as we call it, as well as the Backstroke arm stroking. These are basic fundamentals required to develop future skills. Once the required standard is achieved the pupil is promoted to the State Swim Dolphins class.
STATE SWIM DOLPHINS
Maximum of 4 pupils per class • 30 minutes
This class works towards formal stroking and breathing in Freestyle and Backstroke. The pupils will be developing these skills using the Pod Board which helps develop technique through providing a small amount of buoyancy but easily manageable in stroke development. Once the required standard is achieved the pupil is promoted to the State Swim Sharks class.
STATE SWIM SHARKS
Maximum of 5 pupils per class • 30 minutes
This class continues to refine and develop more sophisticated skills in Freestyle and Backstroke. Pupils are taught how to chain swim and they are 'pushed' to commence building stamina to achieve greater distances. Survival skills are also a very important part of this class.
STATE SWIM 100 BRONZE
Maximum of 5 pupils per class • 30 minutes
This class is held at the deep end of the pool in a larger class area. Far greater emphasis is placed on technique and stamina in Freestyle and Backstroke. To be promoted from this class the pupil must complete the required skills as well as being able to swim 100 metres of Freestyle non-stop in State Swim style. Breaststroke arms are also introduced in this class. Once the requirements of this class are achieved the pupil is promoted to the State Swim 200 Silver class.
STATE SWIM 200 SILVER
Maximum of 6 pupils per class • 45 minutes
Again greater emphasis is placed on Freestyle distance and technique as well as Backstroke. This class also introduces Breaststroke kick as well as Breaststroke complete. To be promoted from this class the pupil must complete the required skills as well as being able to swim 200 metres of Freestyle non-stop in State Swim style. Once the requirements of this class are achieved the pupil is promoted to the State Swim 400 Gold class. Only one step to go to graduation!
STATE SWIM 400 GOLD
Maximum of 8 pupils per class • 45 minutes
The emphasis in this class is on refining techniques in all strokes and racing dives. Swimmers learn the swimming 'rules of the road', how to swim in larger groups, and how swimming can improve general health and all-round fitness. To graduate from this class and the State Swim 400 Gold program, swimmers must display good technique in all strokes and skills as well as performing a 400 metre Freestyle swim non-stop in State Swim style. Pupils will then be eligible to join the State Swim Health and Sport Program.
